In a 2021 interview, he admitted to long-term cocaine abuse, likening his lifestyle to “Jack Nicholson in The Shining.” He stated, “Cocaine hit the spot for me. It heightened my sexual appetite, though unfortunately, it didn’t give me the ability to act on it.”
In 2015, he suffered a serious shoulder injury, which temporarily left him unable to paint. This setback led to depression and alcohol abuse, further complicating his personal struggles.
Death and Legacy
Jack Vettriano passed away at the age of 73 on March 2, 2025, in his apartment in Nice, southern France. His publicist confirmed that his death was not considered suspicious.
