Mike Myers made a striking statement on Saturday Night Live.

The 61-year-old Canadian comedian made a surprise guest appearance on the March 1 episode, using both his screen time and his outfit to respond to President Donald Trump’s recent comments about making Myers’ home country America’s “51st state.”

As the show came to a close, the Shrek star joined host Shane Gillis, musical guest Tate McRae, and the rest of the cast on stage, wearing a graphic T-shirt that displayed the Canadian flag along with the bold message: “Canada Is Not for Sale.”

Myers didn’t just wear the shirt—he ensured its message was prominent. Positioned front and center next to McRae and Gillis as the credits rolled, he frequently adjusted his vest to highlight the statement clearly.

The 61-year-old Canadian comedian showed up unexpectedly during the March 1 episode, using his time on screen and his outfit to address President Donald Trump’s recent comments about possibly making Canada the U.S.’s “51st state.”

As the show wrapped up, the Shrek star stood on stage with host Shane Gillis, musical guest Tate McRae, and the rest of the cast, wearing a striking T-shirt that displayed the Canadian flag along with the words “Canada Is Not for Sale” in bold letters.

Myers didn’t just wear the eye-catching shirt—he made sure it caught everyone’s attention. Standing prominently next to McRae and Gillis as the credits rolled, he frequently adjusted his vest to highlight the message on his shirt.

Support for Myers—and his bold statement—poured in on X after SNL. “ ‘Elbows up’ says Mike Myers! That’s classic Canadian code!” one user remarked.

Another viewer shared their appreciation for Myers’ stance, saying, “It’s so refreshing to see Mike Myers on SNL tonight, standing up for our country 🥹,” and concluded with, “Elbows up, Canada!!!”

Myers’ patriotic gesture came after he portrayed Elon Musk, a close ally of Trump, in the episode’s cold open.

The comedian, who was part of the SNL cast from 1989 to 1995, took on the role of the tech mogul and head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in a parody of the former president’s tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Feb. 28.

Trump has recently expressed his wish for Canada to become the 51st state. Just last month, he brought this up again after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation.

“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State,” Trump wrote with a hint of sarcasm on Truth Social, alluding to his ongoing joke that Canada shouldn’t exist as an independent country.

He further claimed that merging the U.S. and Canada would remove tariffs, drastically reduce taxes, and ensure complete security against the Russian and Chinese ships that often surround the nation. “Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!” he added.
